The reason is that a theme isn’t just a background — it’s closer to a “work uniform” that shapes how efficiently a team operates. Just as matching uniforms make it obvious who’s on the same team, a consistent theme makes collaboration a lot smoother. Today, let’s look at why, and how to set it up.

A theme is your “work uniform”

Think about why restaurant staff wear matching uniforms. You can instantly tell who’s on your team, customers can spot staff easily, and it builds a sense of belonging. SAP themes work the same way. When a team uses the same theme, everyone works from the same screen, which gives collaboration a shared baseline.

A flashy theme might be “your own stylish outfit,” but in a shared work environment, a matching uniform is far more powerful. The reason practitioners recommend the Signature Theme is that it’s the safest, most universal “default uniform.”

Four reasons practitioners choose the Signature Theme

First, it’s easy on the eyes. For someone staring at SAP all day, eye strain is a real concern. High-contrast or overly colorful themes tire the eyes out within just a few hours. The Signature Theme sticks to a basic, no-frills design, so it’s easier to work with over long stretches.

Second, the icons are standard. Icon shapes differ slightly across SAP themes. The “save” button looks like a floppy disk in one theme but different in another. That kind of inconsistency confuses new hires. Because the Signature Theme follows long-established standard icons, anyone can intuitively understand what a button does.

One of the most common questions in the field is “I don’t see that button” or “the screen looks different, I’m not sure what to click.” Most of these problems come from people using different themes. How to set it up (about a minute)

1. Click the icon in the top-left corner of the SAP Logon screen, then go into the Options menu.

3. From the “Select Theme” dropdown, choose “SAP Signature Theme” and click OK at the bottom.

4. Restart SAP, and the change takes effect immediately.
